Who are we?

The Scottish Thyroid Cancer Network is comprised of a team of clinicians from across Scotland who collaborate to share best practice and provide high-quality clinical care, information and support to all patients, wherever they live in the country. The network ensures all patients have equitable access to potentially life-changing clinical trials.

What is Thyroid Cancer?

Thyroid cancer is a rare cancer with generally good prognosis. There are approximately 250-300 new cases per year of thyroid cancer in Scotland. 90% are differentiated thyroid cancer (papillary/follicular cancer), which generally has a very good prognosis, with survival rates in excess of 90%. Thyroid cancer diagnosis and management involves a variety of disciplines including surgery (ENT and general), endocrinology, clinical and medical oncology, medical physics, radiology and pathology. Practice is guided by international and national guidelines.
