What is Adrenal Cortical Cancer

Adrenal cortical cancer (ACC) is a very rare cancer, which affects 1-2 people per million per year. It is also known as adrenocortical carcinoma.

ACC is more common in women than men and tends to occur in people in their 50s and 60s.  The majority of ACC’s are do not run in families, but they may sometimes be part of a congenital and/or familial condition.

Our ACC programme involves:

  • A national multidisciplinary team meeting where clinicians from across Scotland share expertise and  collaborate on patient management plans
  • Implementation of agreed treatment pathways,
  • Providing information and support to patients in their cancer journey,
  • Opportunities for continued medical education and training of professionals involved in the treatment of this cancer,
  • Consistency in the way services are delivered across Scotland.
